What Must I Do To Be Saved?: Download SermonActs 16:25-34
If you have your bible and would like to read along with us I’ll be reading from Acts Chapter 16, these are familiar verses, Paul had gone into the city of Philippi where he first went out by the river side and met Lydia and later met a lady who was a soothsayer or in our words a fortune teller and the bible tells us that he and Silas had been charged for stirring up an uproar in the city because the soothsayer had been bringing in much gains for the people and they complained and the Magistrates put them in prison. And being in prison at midnight Paul and Silas prayed and sang praises unto God and the prisoners heard them and suddenly there was a great earthquake so that the foundations of the prison were shaken and immediately all the doors were open and everyone’s bands were loose. And the keeper of the prison awakening out of his sleep and seeing the prison doors open drew out his sword and would have killed himself supposing that the prisoners had fled. But Paul cried out with a loud voice saying “do thyself no harm: for we are all here.” Then he called for a light and sprang in and came trembling and fell down before Paul and Silas, and brought them out and said Sirs what must I do to be saved? And they said “believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved and thy house.” And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house. And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their stripes and baptized he and all his, straightway. And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them and rejoiced believing in God with all his house. Read more »

The Harvest: Download Sermon

John 4:31-38
My devotional today is from the 4th Chapter of the Gospel According to John. We are most familiar with a scene in that chapter but that’s not what I’m going to read. But Jesus said “I must needs go through Samaria” and as he started through Samaria he was tired and sat down on Jacob’s well. And being hungry he sent some of the disciples on into the city to get food and I’m not going into the story of that but in verse 31 the scriptures said “In the mean while his disciples prayed him saying Master, eat. But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of. Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him ought to eat? Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work. Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? Behold, I say unto you, Lift your eyes and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest. And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together. Read more »

Jeremiah 2:11-13

My devotion today is from Jeremiah chapter 2 beginning with verse 11 and Jeremiah said “hath a nation changed their gods, which are yet no gods? But my people have changed their glory for that which doth not profit. Be astonished, O ye heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid, be ye very desolate, saith the Lord. For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.” That’s reading verses three verses from chapter 2 of the Book of Jeremiah for our devotional. I’m going to speak to you about a subject I’ve used only one time as the pastor of the North Carthage church and I’ve used it one other time during a revival at Mount Tabor. The next morning it was the subject of conversation at the store at Pleasant Shade. Read more »

1 Corinthians 11:23-34

My devotional today will be from the 11th Chapter of 1st Corinthians, the Apostle Paul was writing to the church at Corinth about the observance of the Lord’s Supper.  And he told them in specific terms in how they should observe the supper. Begging with verse 23 of Chapter 11 he said: “For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, that the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood; this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. Read more »

1 Corinthians 12:12-20
My reading today is from the 12th Chapter of 1 Corinthians beginning with verse 12, the Apostle Paul was writing to the members of the church at Corinth a local congregation of the Lord’s church like we believe is gathered here on today.  In verse 12 he said “For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body being many, are one body; so also is Christ. For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free, and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. For the body is not one member, but many. If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body, is it therefore not of the body? And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling? But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him. And if they were all one member, where were the body? But now are they many members, yet but one body.”  We’ll close our reading with verse 20 of Chapter 12 of the first book of Corinthians. Since we had planned a baptizing today I had planned to preach on the subject of Baptism. And I’m going ahead and speak to you on the subject of Baptism and hoping we can do that in a couple of weeks the Lord willing. Read more »

2nd Timothy 1:5
Today is Mother’s Day it’s a day that’s set aside for our Mothers and celebrate our Mothers and all they have done for us up to this period in our lives. I have a little poem I’m going to read I scarcely read poetry or anything in church but Ms. Puddin helps prepare the Sunday school lesson on Sunday morning and Ms. Diann took these poems and put them in a card and gave them to all the children in the little class. I’m going to read this poem to you it is written by Corrina Grummons of Denton Texas. The title of it is “Loves Circle.” She wrote “I wish that for an hour again I could be five or perhaps four or maybe even three I’d crawl up in your lap safe and snug and warm and take a little nap in your loving arms. But now that I’m grown up and now that I’m a Mom I’ll do what time allows with this dear child of my own. I’ll take him in my lap safe and snug and warm and he’ll take a little nap in my loving arms. How to Defeat Satan: 5/3/09

How to Defeat Satan: Download Sermon

James 4:6-10

From the 4th Chapter of the Book of James and verse 6 and the writer said “But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith God resisteth the proud but giveth grace unto the humble.  Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands ye sinners and purify your hearts ye double minded. Be afflicted and mourn and weep let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to heaviness. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord and he shall lift you up.” That’s reading verses 6 thorough 10 of chapter 4 of the Epistle of James for our devotional today. I’m going to speak on a subject that’s attractive to me and I hope it’s attractive to all of you and the subject is “How to Defeat Satan.” Read more »

The Three Parables: Download Sermon

Luke 15:1-2

My devotional will be from Luke Chapter 15 and I’m only going to read the first and second verses of this chapter. The scripture said “Then grew near unto him all publicans and sinners for to hear him. And the Pharisees and Scribes murmured saying this man receiveth sinners and eateth with them.” After reading these 2 verses I’m going to speak to you about the three parables from the 15th chapter of the Gospel According to Luke. Jesus taught in parables often and he taught in parables that he might teach them spiritual things with simple things that they were familiar with so they could understand them. The first parable was “The Lost Sheep”, the second parable was “The Lost Coin” and the third parable was “The Lost Son”.  Beginning with The Lost Sheep the scripture said “what man of you having a hundred sheep and lose one of them doth he not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness and go after that one which is lost.” Read more »
